Malta's annual inflation rate held steady at 2.5% in July 2025, marking its lowest point since April. This stability was influenced by the moderation in price increases for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which eased to 3.8% from 4.2% in June, as well as for restaurants and hotels, which decreased from 4.0% to 3.1%, and miscellaneous goods and services, which fell to 3.2% from 3.9%. Additionally, clothing and footwear prices dropped by 0.3% after showing no change the previous month. Conversely, there was an acceleration in price hikes for sectors like housing and utilities, which rose to 0.7% from 0.6%; furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance, which increased to 0.4% from 0.1%; health, up to 2.8% from 2.7%; recreation and culture, which climbed to 1.5% from 1.0%; and transport, which surged to 4.6% from 3.6%. On a month-over-month basis, consumer prices edged up by 0.4%, a deceleration from the 1.2% increase recorded in June.
