In July 2025, India's infrastructure output experienced a 2% growth compared to the same month the previous year. Although this was a slight deceleration from the revised 2.2% increase observed in June, it marked the eleventh consecutive month of growth in the index. The expansion was driven by continued robust activity in the steel sector, which grew by 12.8% compared to 9.7% in June, and the cement sector, which increased by 11.7% compared to the previous month's 8.2%. These figures reflect a strong demand for construction materials. Additionally, there was a recovery in the output of electricity, which grew by 0.5% following a decline of 1.2% in June, and fertilizers, which rose by 2% after a 1.2% decrease. Conversely, production in refineries decreased by 1%, down from a 3.4% increase the previous month, indicating a sectoral contraction likely influenced by potential tariff increases from the United States as Indian refineries continued to purchase Russian oil.
