The HSBC India Composite PMI reached a notable high of 65.2 in August 2025, ascending from 61.1 in July, as indicated by preliminary data. This growth was fueled by robust performance in both the manufacturing and services sectors. The services sector was particularly instrumental, reaching unprecedented levels in business activity. There was a significant increase in total new orders, nearly matching record highs, driven by the swiftest growth in foreign sales since the composite index's inception in 2014. Companies reported heightened demand from regions such as Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. Employment trends were positive, with faster job creation in services compensating for slower hiring in manufacturing. However, the rise in backlogs of work was minimal, marking the slowest increase since May. In terms of inflation, input costs rose due to higher wages and raw material prices, leading companies to increase their output charges at the highest rate since February 2013, often attributing this to strong demand. Looking forward, business confidence has climbed to its highest level since March, influenced by expectations of continued demand.
