The S&P Global Flash Australia Composite PMI experienced continued expansion in August 2025, reaching 54.9 from a figure of 53.8 in July. This denotes the most robust growth observed since April 2022. Both the manufacturing output and service activities surged at the most rapid rates seen in 40 months, propelled by a substantial increase in new orders and an expanded customer base. Service providers intensified their recruitment efforts, achieving their fastest staffing growth since April 2023, whereas manufacturers witnessed a slight reduction in their workforce. New export orders experienced a modest uptick, with demand emanating from the United States, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions. Input costs saw an upward trajectory in both sectors, primarily due to elevated material, shipping, and wage costs; however, the rate of cost inflation showed a slight deceleration. As a result, companies increased their output prices at a moderated pace, albeit just above the long-term average. Business confidence witnessed an upswing, with manufacturers exhibiting their highest optimism since April 2022, underpinned by expectations of improved market conditions and prospective growth for the following year.
