India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, articulated optimism on Tuesday regarding the finalization of a proposed bilateral trade agreement with the United States, anticipated to be completed by November this year. In his virtual address at an investor conference in Mumbai, as reported by The Economic Times, Goyal stated, "Our negotiations with the US have encountered setbacks due to prevailing geopolitical issues superseding trade concerns. However, I am hopeful that we will soon be back on track and successfully conclude the agreement by the fall, around November, in line with the discussions held between our leaders in February." He further remarked on the current global climate, noting, "We are living in a very volatile, uncertain time, full of trepidation about the future." These remarks come amidst ongoing challenges in India-US relations, particularly concerning tariffs and India’s procurement of Russian oil. Meanwhile, discussions with the European Union are progressing, and relations with China are stabilizing as border tensions diminish.
