Lithuania experienced a notable increase in its trade deficit, reaching EUR 0.908 billion in July 2025, the most substantial gap since December 2022. This is a significant rise from the EUR 0.628 billion deficit recorded in July of the previous year. The expansion of the deficit can be attributed to a growth in imports coupled with a decline in exports. Specifically, imports rose by 4.6% year-on-year to EUR 3.851 billion, driven largely by increased purchases of ground vehicles (20.8%) and machinery and mechanical appliances (9.2%). The primary countries contributing to this rise in imports were Poland (13.7%), Germany (12.9%), and Latvia (8.1%).

Conversely, exports contracted by 3.6%, amounting to EUR 2.942 billion. This decrease was primarily due to reduced sales of mineral fuels, mineral products, and distillation products, which fell by 7.4%, along with a significant drop in cereal sales by 56%. The leading export destinations remained Latvia (12.2%), Poland (10.5%), and Germany (9.1%).

Over the cumulative period from January to July, Lithuania recorded a trade shortfall of EUR 4.082 billion. During this timeframe, exports decreased slightly by 0.6%, whereas imports increased by 6%.
