28.08.202500:35:09UTC+00Japanese Shares Rise After Nvidia Earnings

On Thursday, the Nikkei 225 Index saw a modest increase of 0.1% to approximately 42,560, while the broader Topix Index rose by 0.2% to 3,075. This slight upturn helped recoup some losses incurred earlier in the week, largely driven by investor interest in semiconductor stocks following Nvidia's better-than-anticipated earnings and revenue reports. Despite this, Nvidia's data center sales underperformed expectations for the second consecutive quarter, and the company reported no transactions involving H20 chips to China during this timeframe. Domestically, market participants are anticipating significant economic reports set for release on Friday, which include industrial production, retail sales, and consumer confidence indices. In addition, inflation figures for Tokyo, often viewed as an early indicator of nationwide pricing trends, will be scrutinized for implications regarding the Bank of Japan’s future policy stance. Leading the gains were SoftBank Group, which rose by 3%, Sanrio with a 2.2% increase, Tokyo Electron up by 1.3%, Tokyo Electric Power advancing by 2.5%, and Nikon Corp with a 2.4% rise.
