In September 2025, Brazil experienced a 0.3% decline in retail sales on a month-to-month basis, reversing the 0.1% growth seen in August and falling short of the anticipated 0.3% increase. Of the eight retail categories, six recorded downturns, with the most significant drops occurring in books, newspapers, and stationery (-1.6%), textiles and footwear (-1.2%), and fuels and lubricants (-0.9%). The sale of information technology and communication equipment also fell by 0.9%, alongside reductions in furniture and appliances (-0.5%) and supermarkets, food, and beverages (-0.2%). However, there was a sales increase in personal and household goods (0.5%) and pharmaceutical and perfumery items (1.3%). Meanwhile, in the broader retail sector, encompassing vehicles, auto parts, and construction materials, there was a modest growth of 0.2% month-on-month. On an annual basis, retail trade rose by 0.8%.
