In the second quarter of 2025, Indonesia maintained a current account deficit of USD 3.0 billion, mirroring the figure from the equivalent period in 2024. This marks the ninth successive quarter of deficit and is the most substantial gap since the second quarter of 2024, when the deficit also hit USD 3.0 billion, accounting for 0.8% of the nation's GDP. The primary income deficit saw a slight increase to USD 9.83 billion from USD 9.45 billion a year prior. In contrast, the services account deficit improved, narrowing to USD 5.51 billion from USD 5.99 billion. The trade surplus witnessed an upswing, reaching USD 10.58 billion from USD 9.99 billion, and the secondary income surplus also rose, moving up to USD 1.74 billion from USD 1.43 billion. The previous year saw a notable widening of the current account deficit to USD 8.68 billion, compared with USD 2.04 billion in 2023, primarily due to a decline in the trade surplus amid reduced foreign demand. The central bank projects that this year's current account deficit will remain within 0.5% to 1.3% of GDP.
