In August 2025, Brunei experienced a 0.4% year-over-year decrease in consumer prices, a more significant decline compared to the 0.2% drop in July, extending the trend of deflation for the sixth uninterrupted month. The continued decrease in prices affected several categories, including food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.4% from -0.4% in July), housing and utilities (-0.1% from -0.1%), transportation (-0.4% from -0.2%), communication (-0.3% from -0.3%), recreation and culture (-1.9% from -2.3%), and various goods and services (-1.4% from -0.2%). Notably, clothing prices decreased by 0.2%, a shift from the 2.5% increase observed in July. Additionally, there was a slight decrease in price growth for health (0.9% from 1.0%) and restaurants and hotels (0.2% from 0.3%), while inflation remained unchanged for furnishings and household maintenance (0.1%) and education (0.3%). On a monthly scale, consumer prices fell by 0.2%, mirroring the rate of decline seen in July, marking the fourth consecutive month of decrease.
