In October 2025, the composite manufacturing index for the US Fifth District increased by 13 points from the prior month, reaching -4. This result surpassed expectations of -14 and indicates the least amount of pessimism regarding the district's factory activity since the current trend began in March. Shipping levels showed a recovery from their significant drop in the previous month, moving from -20 in September to 4 in October. This improvement was supported by a smaller decline in new orders, which adjusted from -15 to -6, as companies continued to clear their order backlogs, now at -16 compared to -21 earlier. However, the number of employees continued to decrease, albeit at a slower pace, shifting from -15 to -10. Regarding pricing, input price inflation continued but at a reduced pace, decreasing from 7.2 to 5.8. This allowed companies to slightly lower their prices, going from 4 to 3. Looking forward, there is an optimistic outlook for shipments, rising from 0 to 13, and for new orders, increasing from 8 to 12.
